Meet Dr. Milano

After graduating from NYU School of Medicine in 1987, and completing my Internal Medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in 1990, I went to work at the AIDS clinic at Bellevue. Since 1999, I have practiced at the Boriken Clinic in East Harlem. Back in the early 1990’s all of my HIV patients were so thin. Now those same patients are struggling with their weight: the medications control the infection, and everyone is living long, fruitful lives. Instead of losing weight, everyone struggles to lose weight. Although I continue to treat many HIV-infected people, there are far more regular general patients in my practice. Obesity, hypertension and diabetes are the biggest problems affecting all my patients, whether or not they are infected with HIV. These are lifestyle issues that cannot be controlled with medications alone. Hopefully, the book and the web site can inspire a few people to turn their lives and their health around.

This site provides scientific and information on health for the general public. By no means, is this site meant to render medical advice. Nothing can take the place of regular medical care from a competent professional. This is especially true if you are diabetic, or hypertensive, or overweight, or especially obese. True, diet and exercise help people live longer and healthier lives, but it is best to be safe. Make an appointment with your physician for a check-up.
